Spring Family Photoshoot in Abbotsford BC
The orchard at Willow View Farms is one of my favorite spots in the Fraser Valley for family photography in Abbotsford. The rows of trees form a natural corridor, the light comes through soft and filtered instead of harsh, and there’s grass underfoot everywhere you look. Kids treat it like a playground the moment they arrive — which is exactly what I’m hoping for.
That’s what happened here. Three siblings, a couple of well-loved stuffed animals, and about ten minutes of running between the trees before anyone sat still. The photo at the top of this post isn’t a pose I set up. They flopped down on the blanket together, the little one pointed at something in the branches, and I caught it. That’s the difference between a portrait that looks like a portrait and one that looks like your actual family.
Abbotsford makes this easy. Between the orchards, the farmland, and the open fields, you’re never far from a backdrop that doesn’t need much help. Willow View in particular gives you structure — the tree rows lead the eye, they give kids somewhere to run to and come back from, and they frame everyone without me having to arrange anyone.
The practical side matters too. Mild weather means nobody’s cold, stiff, or squinting, so smiles come naturally instead of being asked for. Light layers work well. Soft, simple colours photograph beautifully against green — no one needs to be uncomfortable to look good.
Sessions at outdoor locations like this book up quickly once the weather turns, and the good light windows are narrow. If you have a date in mind, earlier is better.
