Aspen’s First Birthday Cake Smash in Abbotsford
Aspen turned one, and she celebrated in the sweetest way possible — tulle, bubbles, and a buttercream cake she was very ready to demolish. Her parents booked a studio session with our Abbotsford cake smash photographer team, and the whole morning came together exactly the way we hoped: soft, warm, and full of her personality.
We built her set in creams and blush pinks — a little canvas teepee, a scattering of balloons, wooden blocks spelling out her name, and a pair of teddy bears keeping watch. Aspen wore a dusty rose tulle dress that caught every bit of the studio light. Before the cake even came out, we spent time just letting her play. She sat with a strand of wooden beads, rocked on the little wooden horse, and gave us one of those wide open-mouthed laughs that parents will want framed on the wall for the next thirty years.
Then the cake arrived. A two-tier buttercream in pale yellow and pink rosettes, set right in front of her. Some babies study it for a while. Aspen went straight in — hands first, feet planted right beside it, absolutely delighted with herself. Those frosting-covered fingers and that grin are the reason we love these sessions.
We finished with a bubble bath in the vintage-style tub, which does double duty: it cleans up the buttercream and it makes for some of the softest images of the whole session. Bubbles floating past, bare shoulders, that content post-cake expression. It’s the calm after the storm, and it rounds out the story beautifully.
Sessions like Aspen’s run about 90 minutes and include the set design, the cake, and time built in for breaks, snacks, and whatever mood a one-year-old happens to be in that morning. If you’re planning a first birthday in the Fraser Valley, reach out to plan your session — we book cake smash dates a few months ahead, especially through spring and summer.
